Have a Sneak Peek at 3 of my Vocal Power Tools

By Selena, 21/11/2017, Category:Unlock your vocal potential

Vocal Power....Powerful Singing...what does it mean?

To me, there are several streams to this and your interpretation might be different to mine, so I'm going to clarify what I mean, and you can see if it resonates with you...

Powerful Singing means...

1. Having a strong (positive) impact on your audience with your singing;

2. Having plenty breath power to supply your voice with so it works well;

3. Feeling emotionally and spiritually empowered when you are singing;

4. A rich and strong sound that charms peoples ears;

5. Being Expressive and Authentic.

Would you agree? Can you think of any more aspects? I'd love to hear.

So here's your Sneak Peek at 3 of my Vocal Power Tools...

So now I want to let you have a glimpse of what they are...

3 Vocal Power Tools

1. Focused tone.

So to have a 'strong' sound, we need to make sure our vocal tone is 'focused' and not breathy...imagine the difference between a wide , pale beam from a torch , versus, a small, bright one; Can you get the sense that the sound equivalent of the latter will 'carry' more and be more zingy to your ears?

So you need to get out of any breathiness habit you may have, and one great tool to achieve this is called the 'Blown Ooh':

Sing a tone on a well-formed 'Ooh' with a sound almost like a 'v' coming through your lips. Play around with different notes, you can improvise for fun or sing arpeggios.

Spend a few minutes doing this, a couple of times a day and you will get your instrument to work more effectively, giving you that lovely focused, strong tone.

2. Good Resonance.

To achieve power and a positive impact you need richness too. This comes mainly from good resonance. Most people aren't making the most of their resonators.

So here's my tool for ramping up your resonance ( and its an amplifier too):

You want your throat to feel really spacious. Imagine a balloon expanding inside the back of your mouth and top of your throat. Now sing. Listen to the difference!
( this was really too valuable to give away)...

3. Reliable Breath Flow.

To get plenty of breath power to supply your voice with sustain and volume, you want to make sure you are breathing deeply and not shallowly.

So the 3rd tool is this:
(i) On the inbreath, make sure you are allowing yourself to fill up fully: let your belly and your tailbone relax.
(ii) When you sing ( on the outbreath), imagine that your voice is beginning at your base chakra / pelvic floor.

So, give these a try and let me know what you discover!

Now, of necessity, in this post I have given you 3 short and concise pieces of guidance. They will help if you really work with them.

But if you want to effectively bring out the power in your singing voice, you can learn how to do exactly that by working with me personally.

Together we can set up your vocal power skills for years to come.
